Twisted Halloween

Our anthology of twisted, spooky, Halloween-appropriate stories will be released in September of 2023. Story submissions are due December 15, and by signing up now, we will provide you with instructions and reminders for submitting your story. Not all stories will be published. The submissions will be read and selected by a panel that will judge the quality and fit for the anthology. If selected, your story will be provided free edits and feedback, professional formatting, and combined with other authors under a professional cover. During the publishing process, you will be provided with a marketing plan, branding advice, and join the community of Word Addicts in uplifting and promoting each other.

There is no fee for submitting or being published in this book. We only require a quality, twisted tale.

What We're Looking For

We're going for a "spooky" Halloween tone, just in time for the season! Our challenge to you as a writer is to create a spooky story with a twist that creates a gasp, shudder, or even a laugh. We understand that each author is unique and so are our anthologies. It isn’t restricted to Halloween. Dia de los Muertos, urban legends, ghost stories, gothic tales, or anything else one might read to get those delightful shivers on All Hallows Eve. Some genres you might consider exploring are supernatural, psychological, gothic, monster, or other sub-genres of typical horror and give it a twist. We are open to other genres (except erotica), so surprise us with your creativity! Since our audience is 13+, we discourage "slasher" stories. We’re looking for spooky tales using wit and creativity rather than shock/gore factors. If one is submitted, your story may not be chosen or you may be required to remove most of the slashing. No body horror.

Requirements

• You must reside within the United States.

• Language must be PG-13 (compare to MPAA ratings), and no "F" words. Word Addicts will judge excessive profanity on a case-by-case basis and changes may be required for publication. It’s best to avoid it.

• No explicit erotica.

• No gorefests. We’re looking for wit and creativity for the twist/surprise, not gore shock factor.

• 3,000 to 10,000 words. Prose only.

• You will respond promptly to emails, edit suggestions, and meet deadlines. Failure to do so will result in losing your place in the anthology.

• If your story is chosen, you will be given and participate in a marketing plan for this anthology, one of the many benefits of Word Addicts.

• You do not need to be previously published, but you will be required to have some sort of social media. We’re an online community, after all. If you don’t have one now and are chosen, we will help you establish one.

Please draft your story and submit it by December 15. By filling out the form, you are agreeing to receive submission information and deadline reminder emails. If chosen, you will receive an equal share of royalties with the other writers in the anthology.
